Getting Involved
You don’t actually have to join Sandwell LINk in order to be involved. If you live, work or receive health or social care in Sandwell then your views matter to us regardless of if you’re on a mailing list.
You can do this by filling out and returning the individual experience form.
Remember that Sandwell LINk is there to represent everyone’s views of services in Sandwell. So if you don’t want to join up, you can still fill out any surveys that might be on the site, attend any events we advertise or even send us a one off statement about your experience of health or social care.
However, if you do want to join: Sandwell LINk has three different levels of involvement you can opt into, with a variety of options at each of those levels for what best suits you. Below is a brief explanation of each level.
Participant: You might be an individual or representing an organisation, but by joining our mailing list you can stay up-to-date with what Sandwell LINk is looking at and what events may be being arranged. This is frequently the option for those who wish to stay informed, but don’t have a great deal of time to give to Sandwell LINk.
As a participant you will be given the opportunity to contribute to surveys or other research carried out to determine what the LINk focuses on as a priority in its work programme. You can have a very real influence on what Sandwell LINk does, even if you don’t have the time to be more involved.
Member: You may again be an individual or an organisation, but you choose to become more involved with Sandwell LINk through the subgroups that carry out its work. This can be a choice between simply joining the mailing list and ‘contributing by proxy’ (phoning or writing in when you want to make a contribution) through to regularly attending meetings and even being an ‘Authorised Representative’. Just click here to find out more about what being an authorised representative means.
As a member you are not under any obligation, but you are invaluable to Sandwell LINk in getting work done. You could fulfil a range of roles from representing Sandwell LINk at different meetings, promoting Sandwell LINk at events or even (for those joined up as individuals rather than organisations) standing for election onto the Management Group.
Officer: You can only be an officer if you are elected by the rest of Sandwell LINk at the AGM, or if you are co-opted on grounds of your skills. As an officer you are part of the Management Group (numbering 6 – 12 individuals) who are responsible for running how Sandwell LINk works. You take into account the views of the rest of the LINk and determine the work programme. You also have the opportunity to represent the LINk at a range of meetings and events, doing presentations to the public or talking directly with the people who run Sandwell’s health and social care services through taking seats available to Sandwell LINk on their boards or committees. Being an officer is time consuming but also very fulfilling as you’re at the heart of what Sandwell LINk does.
