LINk Explained

LINk stands for Local Involvement Network.

LINk was established in April 2008. LINk replaces Public and Patient Involvement Forums (PPIF) as a voice for members of the public in their health care services. LINK intends to build on its predecessors accomplishments and further improve the experiences of the people of Sandwell who use their Primary Care Trust (PCT), Sandwell Mental Health Foundation Trust (SMHFT), Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust (SWBH) and Sandwell Council.

Sandwell LINk is a network of people and organisations in Sandwell. The LINk is committed to improving the standards of all the health and social care providers within the borough of Sandwell. With your assistance, and only with YOUR assistance, we can achieve OUR aims.

Volunteers are crucial to the existence and development of the LINk. For those
of you who already volunteer your time to improve the lives of the people of Sandwell, THANKS. For those of you considering volunteering, what are you waiting for, Sandwell LINk awaits.

Sandwell LINk has three levels of membership:

1.    ‘Officers’ – people elected onto the Management Group at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
2.    ‘Members’ – individuals and organisations who are more involved with sub-groups and other work.
3.    ‘Participants’ – people and organisations who are just on the mailing list and fill out an occasional survey or attend an event every now and then.

It is entirely up to you how involved you are in Sandwell LINk, but it pays to at least be on the mailing list because you find out more about developments in your area. If you register online you can sign up to our mailing list. You can choose between attending the sub-groups meetings or simply being on a mailing list for them. Maybe you want to participate by sending an email (or letter) or phoning to share your contribution. We need and appreciate your assistance. Whatever way is best for you is good for us.

At the moment Sandwell LINk has a Management Group (MG) which operates as its Board. Following the Board there are two sub-groups; Health and Social. The MG is elected by the rest of the LINk at the AGM and its primary role is to oversee the running of the LINk for the rest of the year. The MG members are listed under ‘Management’.

Since the summer of 2009 Sandwell LINk has established two sub-groups, one for health and one for social care. The list of their meeting dates can be found on the events pages. These sub-groups carry out important functions like the Electronic Patient Records consultations in January 2010.

We all have health and social concerns. Join us. Let the LINk be your ‘voice’ to improve health and social care for the people of Sandwell.
